A few hours prior to Saturday's game against Georgia Southern, the South Alabama equipment manager Twitter posted the game's uniform combination. In the graphic, there sat the new navy helmets. It was difficult to see minor details due to the filter applied, but the game was only a few hours away. Once the team hit the field, we got a much better view of the addition to the uniforms.
The new helmets - the first non-white helmets in the program's history - are a similar design to the default helmets, featuring a tapering stripe on the top, and the team's JAGS wordmark on the sides. Aside from the new shell color, the biggest change was the addition of chrome. The facemasks, the outline of the stripe and JAGS decal, and the player number on the back were all chrome finished.

It has been a trend for South Alabama to slowly introduce new or update aspects to the uniform wardrobe. Ever since the beginning of the football program, the Jaguars have added at least one new item, whether it be a jersey, pants, or even a full alternate uniform like the greys first worn in 2014.
Unfortunately for the Jaguars, they lost the game to Georgia Southern 24-9, unable to capitalize on the momentum from the previous week's massive win. Hopefully the blue helmets won't be labled "unlucky" or "cursed," as many fans and superstitious teams like to do, and we get to them a bit more.
