Helmet History

Even in a very short time period, South Alabama has worn many different helmet designs. Here you will find the history of the helmets as worn by the team. The Jaguars wore a single helmet each year until the 2016 season, when new shells, facemasks, and decals were switched in.

2017 Season

The navy shells returned for 2017. Beginning with the Alabama A&M game, an Empowering Change decal was worn on the back.

2016 Season

The traditional default design stayed unchanged for the 2016 season. A "one heartbeat" decal was added under the Sun Belt Conference decal on the back of the helmet. This helmet was worn in four contests during the year. The Jaguars added a pink ribbon to the back for Breast Cancer Awareness for the Georgia St game.
The new matte navy shells made their debut in the second game of the season against Georgia Southern. The stripes and wordmark are outlined with a chrome grey stroke. The facemask and player number are also grey chrome. This design was worn three times during the season, with the later games adding a memorial decal for school professor Dr. Angus McBryde, who passed in a car accident, as well as a pink and teal ribbon.

The Jaguars went with new navy decals and facemasks on the navy shells for the game against San Diego State. The red features (stripe and wordmark outline, player number) are chrome finished.

The Idaho game saw the Jags make another decal change for the navy shells, going chrome silver over red.
Military Appreciation fell on the final home game of the season against New Mexico State. The stars and stripes decals have been worn now three of the last four seasons.
To mix up the white shells, South Alabama added new decals and facemasks for two games. The second of which saw the addition of the Extra Yard for Teachers decal on the back.

As per the new tradition, South Alabama exchanged the JAGS wordmark decals for the Jaguar head logo for the bowl game. Two oversized decals flank the sides of the shell, with an Arizona state flag decal sitting in the middle back of the helmet.

2015 Season

The main helmet only saw minor changes going in to the 2015 season. The player number on the back now matches the wordmark font, rather than the jersey number. The Sun Belt Conference decal was also added to the back.
