Year in Review - Oregon of the South

The 2016 season was an up and down ride for nearly every party. South Alabama's football team was no exception. The season's highs included the program's first ever win over an SEC program at Mississippi State, and first win over a ranked opponent in San Diego State, but had lows with seven losses, including blowing a 21-point lead against Air Force in the bowl game.

Jaguars Debut New Navy Uniforms

A week after stunning Mississippi State for the biggest win in program history, the South Alabama Jaguars came home to a nice surprise. After photos surfaced showing blank matte navy helmets above the Jaguars' home lockers, speculation began to cycle. It was only a matter of time before we saw what was being planned - it just came faster than expected.

Jaguars stun Mississippi State

The biggest win in school history comes in week one against Mississippi State. The Jaguars have faced the Bulldogs a handful of times in the last few years, but the big break came yesterday. Holding a 21-20 lead late in the 4th quarter, MSU was driving once again. A 28-yard field goal attempt that boinked off the left upright was enough to seal the win for the 28-point underdog Jaguars.

The Jaguars walked in to Davis-Wade Stadium wearing their typical JAGS helmets, the white Mach Speed jerseys, blue pants with red and white stripes, and red belts. This would be the third game the team wore this such combination. South Alabama heads back home holding a 2-1 record in this combo.

2015 South Alabama Uniforms

With the 2015 season coming to a close with the Jaguars unable to make another bowl game, we take a look back at this year's uniforms worn.

2015 saw many teams across the country transition over to Nike's new Mach Speed template, a template reserved for Oregon and a few others at the release. Many teams converted to the new "lighter, faster" uniforms this season, and introduced some new looks alongside the new template.

South Alabama added a new set of white jerseys this season on the Mach Speed template. The new jerseys were plain and simple, unlike South's previous white jerseys. These new tops featured the Jag head logo on the jersey, a first for the Jaguars in their short football history.

2014 South Alabama Uniforms

The 2014 season was South Alabama's most successful season as an FBS team, going 6-6 during the season, and earning their first bowl bid. 2014 also saw the most uniform combinations worn during the Jaguars' short history - 11 in total

Throughout the season, the Jaguars wore the same uniforms that they had in previous years, with the only exception being the grey alternate uniforms. Debuting against Navy in the final game of the regular season, South Alabama showcased their first non-school color uniform, going GFGS (Grey For Grey's Sake) with their new Speed Machine template uniforms from Nike.

2013 South Alabama Uniforms

The 2013 season was South Alabama's first bowl eligible season, but unfortunately was not extended by a bowl bid. The 6-6 Jaguars finished 5th in the Sun Belt Conference, their best finish to date.

As per the recent trend, South Alabama introduced one new uniform this season, this time being the new Speed Machine red jersey. These new jerseys were the first to utilize a number font based off the athletic font (similar to that of the Houston Cougars). The new jerseys were worn five times throughout the season, in four different uniform combinations.
