USA Debuts Another New Helmet

Just last week, the South Alabama Jaguars debuted their first navy helmet. This week's game at Sun Belt Conference foe Louisiana-Lafayette, the team sported another new helmet.

Last week's navy helmet featured chrome details on the decals and the facemask was technically nickel-plated, which is better in terms of cost and endurance. This new white helmet has the same design features. The chrome details didn't pop as well as they did on the blue lids.

The biggest downside to these helmets is the lack of blue. With the normal white helmets, the outline of the center stripe, the JAGS wordmark on the sides, and the facemasks were all blue, giving the helmet a great balance of red, white and blue. Even when mixing up the different colored pants and jerseys, the helmet always did a good job pulling everything together. The presence of blue would be a big positive for these helmets.

I like to see the South Alabama equipment team working out new ideas like this. Last week we saw a new blue helmet as well as a new blue jersey. I don't think we'll see any more new helmets from the Jaguars this season, but it'll be interesting to see how well they match the new items with the rest of their uniforms.
